From PCOS to PMOS: Explaining the condition and its name change – WEBINAR
- Type: Event
- Date: 16/09/2026 at 12:00pm - 1:00pm
- Location: Zoom

Join us for a free webinar as part of our women's health series on polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS).
The ALLIANCE and the Scottish Government are hosting a free webinar on PMOS (formerly PCOS) on Wednesday 16 September 12-1.
Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) is a condition that affects how your ovaries work. During ovulation, an egg is released once a month. PMOS can have an impact on this and cause irregular ovulation, or no ovulation at all. This can cause irregular, infrequent or absent periods. PMOS can also affect metabolism, and for some women may make it more difficult to get pregnant.
Earlier this year PMOS was announced as the replacement name for PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). This name-change aims to better reflect the condition, and support quicker diagnosis and care for those affected.
This free webinar will discuss why PMOS is a more accurate term for the condition, and how it relates to the common symptoms. This session will also outline what can be done to manage PMOS, and how you may explore diagnosis.

We will be joined by expert speakers including:

This webinar is open to anyone that wishes to learn more about PMOS. Health professionals are welcome to join, although discussion will not focus on diagnosis or managing the condition from a professional perspective.
This webinar will feature BSL/English interpreters and a graphic facilitator. The webinar will be recorded.

NOTES
[1] This event is delivered in partnership with the Scottish Government and in support of the Women’s Health Plan
[2] The Women’s Health Plan and the ALLIANCE’s programme uses the term ‘women/woman’ throughout but it is important to highlight that it is not only those who identify as women who require access to gynaecology and reproductive health services. All healthcare services should be respectful and responsive to individual needs.
