The ALLIANCE spotlight the second edition of the Humans of Scotland series.
Book Week Scotland is an annual celebration of books and reading that takes place across the country. For Book Week 2022, the ALLIANCE is showcasing the second collection of Humans of Scotland stories. In this collection, disabled people, people living with long term conditions and unpaid carers from across Scotland share their experiences of living through the COVID-19 pandemic.
The thirty-four stories included within this collection highlight those people who were disproportionately affected by the pandemic. The stories capture; the impact that delayed or cancelled medical treatment caused, the impact that unpaid carers faced as they became the main form of support and care after essential services were withdrawn, and the impact those loving with sensory loss faces when trying to access key services. The commitment and dedication of health and social care staff is clearly present in the pieces shared by nurses, Allied Health Professionals and home care workers. These lived experience narratives emphasise how central and key lived stories are to informing our policy and practices as we continue to remobilise our health and social care services.
The book has been published in four formats: an online PDF version, an audiobook version, a Braille version, and a hardcover book version. The variety of versions available reflects the ALLIANCE’s core principle of ‘people at the centre’.
