Campaign raises public awareness of where to get help for people rough sleeping in Glasgow.
The Glasgow Alliance to End Homelessness have launched their inaugural winter campaign, Get Help Glasgow, to raise awareness of where the people of Glasgow can seek further support if they are aware of someone in their community who is, or at risk of, rough sleeping.
Recognising that people are more at risk of presenting as homeless during the winter months, Get Help Glasgow aims to inform the public of tangible actions they can take if they, or someone they know, is sleeping on the streets to get immediate support. The campaign is also raising community awareness of what help and further advice are available that can prevent someone from becoming homeless in the first place.
Alliance Director, Mark Kelvin said:
‘Glasgow is a compassionate and caring city, but it hasn’t always been clear where to look for help or know what to do when someone finds themselves, or someone they know, sleeping on the street.
We have a huge number of organisations and services working across Glasgow ready to support people, whether that’s information and advice on services in the community or practical support for things like food and money advice, all of which is now visible in one place at Get Help Glasgow.
We’re encouraging people to save the Rough Sleepers and Vulnerable People (RSVP) helpline number in their phone this winter, so if somebody is rough sleeping and needs immediate support, the team can get them the right help.’
Jim McBride, Head of Adult Services (Criminal Justice and Homelessness) at Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership, commented: ‘Nobody needs to sleep on the streets in Glasgow, so it’s vital that people get the support they need as soon as possible.
Through Get Help Glasgow, we’re pleased to raise awareness of where people who are rough sleeping can get immediate support.’
Get Help Glasgow encourages people to call the Rough Sleepers and Vulnerable People (RSVP) free helpline on 0800 027 7466, managed by Simon Community Scotland on behalf of Glasgow City Council.
For those looking for support and advice on other services that exist in the community, including homeless services and support related to money advice, mental health support, food banks, and community groups, visit gethelpglasgow.com
Get Help Glasgow campaign posters will be visible across Glasgow City Centre throughout December and January.
