We want to improve the cancer journey. Can you help us do this?
The Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland (the ALLIANCE) is working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support and Dumfries and Galloway Health and Social Care Partnership to improve people’s experience of the cancer journey. We want to ensure that new cancer services meet the needs of people from Dumfries and Galloway by asking ‘what matters to you?’ The information we gain will help inform the design of new cancer services both locally in Dumfries and Galloway, and nationally across Scotland.
We are looking for people from Wigtownshire and North West Dumfries area who can use their experience of being affected by cancer, to help us gather this information. We would like you to:
- Check that we are asking the right questions in group discussions
- Help lead a group discussion
- Help analyse what people tell us
By leading group discussions as someone affected by cancer, you will help us to hear from people from your community. As a peer and as someone who has this shared experience, you will help create a supportive environment.
What will you get out of this role?
As part of this role, you will receive five hours of training which will be split over several days. This training will cover:
- how to lead discussions
- how to hold cancer conversations
- trauma awareness
As an ALLIANCE volunteer, you will also be reimbursed by the ALLIANCE for any out-of-pocket expenses that occur as a result of this role.
As well as training, you will receive regular one to one support sessions with a member of ALLIANCE staff, and you will be introduced to the wider project team.
If you are interested, please have a read over the attached role descriptor to find out more about the role.
To find out more information or to apply contact Sarah Dick, Macmillan Lived Experience Development Officer at the ALLIANCE by the 9th of December 2022 by email to macmillan@alliance-scotland.org.uk. Or call 0141 404 0231 to leave your contact details and Sarah will call you back.
