Ahead of International Human Rights Day 2022, the ALLIANCE signed a joint letter to the Prime Minister and political leaders.
Ahead of International Human Rights Day 2022, the ALLIANCE joined 157 organisations in writing to the Prime Minister and political leaders outlining why our Human Rights Act 1998 matters:
“This Human Rights Day, we write with heavy hearts that the UK Government’s approach to our domestic law risks taking us further and further away from the legal protection of human rights here at home … we want a world in which our political leaders commit to our universal protections, not simply those it finds acceptable.”
In the context of a cost of living crisis, it is essential that our fundamental legal protections are not stripped away. Our Human Rights Act 1998 provides universal protections for everyone and ensures that those with public power are held to account.
The letter calls on the UK Government, and all political leaders, to share our commitment to everyone’s human rights, and ensure that our Human Rights Act 1998 is here to stay.
