The ALLIANCE Children and Young People programme reviews activity in 2020

We continued our work on the Getting to Know GIRFEC training workstream and responded to national policy consultations.
During 2020, the ALLIANCE Children and Young People programme adapted to online delivery of its Getting to Know Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC) training, delivering both bespoke and networking training sessions. We also gathered feedback on how the policy works (or not) in practice to inform Scottish Government and improve work on the ground for disabled children and young people, children and young people with long term conditions, their families, and carers.
In 2020, we held 20 training sessions involving over 250 participants representing a range of third and public sector organisations and parents. These sessions continue to receive overwhelmingly positive feedback.
We also strengthened our work on relevant policy issues by holding consultations and/or submitting responses on topics of interest for disabled children and young people, children and young people with long term conditions, their families, and carers. This included responses to the inquiry on the United Nations Convention for the Right of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Bill, to raising the age of referral to the children’s reporter, and to the Education and Skills Committee Inquiry on “vulnerable” children during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We continue to regularly engage with our Advisory Group, which delivers advice on all aspects of our programme, and have secured a place on the Children’s Sector Strategic Forum (hosted by Children in Scotland), as well as our ongoing membership on the Disabled Children and Young People Advisory Group (hosted by Scottish Government). We are also represented through our Advisory Group members on the COVID-19 Children and Families Leadership Group and the Family Support Delivery Group (both hosted by Scottish Government).
Through the ALLIANCE Live platform, we continue to deliver discussions and interviews on topics relating to children and young people, their families, and carers. This content has attracted over 1,300 views on YouTube and Facebook. The most viewed is an interview with Iona Colvin, the Scottish Government Chief Social Work Adviser (this link will take you away from our website).
