Data Strategy for Health and Social Care: analysis of consultation responses

An independent analysis of responses to the consultation on the Data Strategy for Health and Social Care has now been published.
The Scottish Government has published an independent analysis of responses to its consultation to inform the development of Scotland’s first ever data strategy for health and social care. The ALLIANCE responded to the consultation in August 2022, calling for principles of human rights, trust and transparency to be at the heart of the new strategy.
The consultation received 162 responses. The analysis sets out key findings from the responses. These include:
- Transparency and consent were recurring themes. It is important that people are aware of what data is collected from them, how it is stored, what their data is used for, and by whom. This information should be available in clear and accessible formats to allow for informed consent and the sharing of relevant data.
- There is a need for user-friendly platforms, interoperable systems, linked data and data standards to improve the accuracy, completeness, consistency and accessibility of data.
- Practitioners should be empowered through investment in training to give them a better understanding of data processing, the value of data in health and social care, and of governance and ethics.
- Anonymised data should be used to drive medical advancements, evaluate the impact of health and social care interventions, and to shape future policy and planning.
The strategy is due to be published in early 2023.
