Scottish Government respond to Joint Statement on the National Care Service

The Scottish Government has replied to the Joint Statement from 145 people and organisations on the proposed National Care Service.
On 11 March 2022 the ALLIANCE submitted a Joint Statement on the National Care Service to Ministers, focused the need to put people at the centre of social care reform.
Drawn from proposals from organisations working across health and social care, people who access social care, and unpaid carers, the Joint Statement calls on the Scottish Parliament and Scottish Government to ensure that the voices of lived experience and the third and independent sectors are at the forefront of the proposed National Care Service for Scotland.
We recently received a response. Key statements from the letter are as follows:
“We are committed to ensuring that the design and delivery of the NCS has human rights embedded throughout. We will continue to engage with people with lived experience of the service, whether they are people accessing care and support, their families, care workers or providers – to improve future services and make things better for everyone.
We will not rush this process, and please be assured that throughout, we will build and co-design the detail through our continued engagement with people with experience of using these services, to develop the final scope of an NCS for everyone.
In doing so, we will draw on the experience of the ALLIANCE, and other stakeholders whose knowledge and expertise will provide valuable input as this work develops.”
