Sensory Hub Training
Training delivered by the Scottish Sensory Hub
The ALLIANCE Scottish Sensory Hub (SSH) is Scotland’s only cross-sensory coordination body for people who are Deaf, Deafblind, or who have Visual Impairments.
Our inclusive communication, sensory awareness and sighted guide training helps organisations meet their legal duties (in line with the Equality Act 2010) and build genuinely accessible practice. Whether that’s improving website or office accessibility, supporting event planning, or adapting how you contact people and track communication support requirements, our training can help.
We deliver a range of training that is available online or in person to third sector organisations, businesses, and the public sector. Organisations can choose from the following standalone training options, individually or in combination:
- Introduction to Inclusive Communication – a foundational session covering principles, legislation, and practical resources (e.g. BSL interpretation, Easy Read, and screen reader accessibility)
- Embedding Inclusive Communication Practices – an in-depth workshop including engaging with assistive technology and organisational resource review
- Sighted Guide Training – in person practical training on how to support Deafblind people and people with visual impairments
- Sensory Awareness Training – introduction to Deafness, Deafblindness, and Visual Impairment, and how to improve knowledge of inclusive communication good practice. Typically delivered in partnership with member organisations.
- Supportive Employment Practices: Sensory Awareness Training – focused on retaining and supporting colleagues with sensory impairments in the workplace
- Bespoke Support – tailored training, priced on application
Sessions can be delivered flexibly, from webinars for 100+ attendees to smaller in-person workshops. All training options can include monitoring and evaluation to measure demand and impact.
All ALLIANCE Scottish Sensory Hub training is led by people with lived experience of sensory impairment, with specialist communication, information, mobility and orientation support provided as needed.
Feedback from some of our recent training includes:
“One of the best short training sessions I’ve ever had. A perfect among of videos, discussion and interaction. Great practical session that left me feeling much more confident.”
“It was incredibly useful to gain tips on how to enhance the accessibility of written outputs and events. The facilitators were excellent communicators and the ideas were clear.”
